THE
BIG FIVE CHALLENGE
IS BACK...
ANIMAL PLANET UK'S 4th HIGHEST RATING SHOW, NOVEMBER 2009
The innovative & unique reality wildlife gameshow that stormed the popularity stakes in 2009 on Animal Planet UK & EMEA is back! The second series has just been completed by indie producer Don Percival and this time its funnier, more exciting and zanier than ever before!
THE NAME OF THE GAME
The aim of the show is for each participating team to locate, track, photograph and keep within 50 metres of the Big Five: Lion, Leopard, Elephant, Rhino & Buffallo... ON FOOT! Each team is accompanied by a veteran game guide, mainly to ensure that the contestants don't end up as a meal for a hungry lion! Points are allocated for keeping their target animal within range for 10 minutes but there are plenty of bonus points for the best picture, different stand alone tasks and spotting other targetted animals.
"This time we decided to up the ante" says Don with a mischievious glint in his eye, "We really wanted to get some big characters on screen and get some sparks flying between them." The producers sought their contestants from the one industry where egos match the size of the animals they were tracking: models. Three guys and girls were chosen from Australia, India, UK, USA, Canada & Germany and mixed and matched at will.
"Straight away we knew we had some great TV coming" says Don, "We had playful Mun from India who drove Angela from Canada mad with his antics. US action man Jesse whose attempt to control UK's Karina almost saw them out of the race early on... we were there to film it all!"
There are heart stopping elephant charges, tears, fears and tantrums, a bizarre coincidence leave two teams 'herding' wild buffallo for two different angles... and the underwear scene when guide Craig takes his team through a muddy water pan on all fours to reach the optimum spot to photograph some posing Rhinos... This is must see TV!
BRINGING WILDLIFE & ENTERTAINMENT TOGETHER...
"This is wildlife programming but not as we know it" Says Don, "We reached a whole new audience with our first show and we want to reach out to an even bigger demo with this one. You really cant pigeon hole this show - its entertainment as well as wildlife"
The show has been immediately picked up by Animal Planet UK and EMEA and all other rights are available right now.
FORMATS
"One thing that this show lends itself to is a format," says Rod Rodrigo, International Sales Manager, IMC, "We have a lot of interest from a range of territories about developing localised shows with local talent and presenters and the great thing about this show is that all the commissioners have to do is to pack their bags and fly to Southern Africa where the producer has everything pinned down ready to roll from accommodation to equipment - it is a truly turnkey concept which can be adapted to most budgets"
The show will be premiered at MIPCOM in Cannes in October 2011 but for information and licensing ahead of the market, email international@imcvision.com now!
